Kindergarten

At Kindergarten 1, we focus on building confidence, self-esteem and strengthening the academic foundation through carefully planned activities that will support these key areas.  Children will be in their 2nd year of the USA Sadlier Phonics Program of which they will review all letter sounds covered in Nursery before progressing to digraphs and sounds blending subsequently.  At this stage, they will also learn more about writing, go deeper into vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.

Kindergarten 1 children are keen learners and always like to ask questions.  Through the Reggio Emilia inspired project inquiry investigations, they will hone scientific skills such as predicting, observing, estimating, comparing and fact-finding.  During the course of investigation, they will not be given answers or solutions right away but instead will be guided to go through the thinking, questioning and data collection process to discover answers for themselves, and evaluate their own successes or failures. Children have many different ways to show their understanding and to express their thoughts therefore it is at K1, where they will be able to fully explore their curiosity.

We strengthen academic fundamentals by exposing children to the necessary concepts and knowledge they will eventually need in formal school.
